Staying at home and cooking for yourself, your family, and your neighbors has never been more important. As always, you can rely on all of us in the test kitchen for resources to help you plan, shop, and cook for yourself and your loved ones. We are committed to serving as a resource to you every day.

We'll be using this page to post articles and recipe collections that we think will help you feed the people you love in this unpredictable time. We post about topics you're looking for now: pantry-friendly inspiration, info on ingredient substitutions, and big-batch recipes you can freeze. We'll even provide an occasional break from the norm by way of a dispatch from our test cooks and kitchen staff, who are all currently working from home.

We're all in this together. Let’s roll up our sleeves, wash our hands, and stay busy in the kitchen.

OCTOBER 19 — OCTOBER 25 Kitchen Classroom: Week 32

This week, kids make an easy Pumpkin Snack Cake for dessert and One-Pot Pasta with Quick Tomato Sauce for dinner, conduct a simple science experiment to learn about yeast after making Overnight Waffles, and create their very own ice cream flavor in a Make It Your Way Challenge.

 

OCTOBER 12 — OCTOBER 18 Kitchen Classroom: Week 31

This week, kids learn all about spices as they make Beef and Bean Chili, test their knowledge while making homemade Strawberry Pop Tarts, find out what secret ingredient gives a Classic Grilled Cheese sandwich the crispiest crust, and observe how sweet potatoes transform  while making Baked Sweet Potatoes.

 

OCTOBER 5 — OCTOBER 11 Kitchen Classroom: Week 30

This week, kids can make a Gingery Carrot Soup for lunch, explore the science behind raisins as they bake a loaf of Cinnamon-Raisin Swirl Bread, spiff up their seasoning skills in a Make It Your Way Challenge all about salt, and observe the power of steam while making Fried Eggs.

 

SEPTEMBER 28 — OCTOBER 4 Kitchen Classroom: Week 29

This week, kids explore different types of apples while baking an Apple Crisp, learn where pepitas come from while makeing Sweet and Salty Pepitas, discover why carrots are orange as they bake a Carrot Snack Cake, and do some delicious math problems while making Ham and Cheese Sliders.

 

SEPTEMBER 21 — SEPTEMBER 27 Kitchen Classroom: Week 28

This week, kids explore spices in Spiced Applesauce Muffins, put their favorite snacks to the test in The Battle of Crispy Versus Crunchy, learn about flags of the world while making a Caprese Panini, and contribute a main dish for family dinner by making Apple Cider-Glazed Pork Chops.

 

SEPTEMBER 14 — SEPTEMBER 20 Kitchen Classroom: Week 27

This week, kids can turn family dinner into pizza night with an easy Sheet Pan Pizza, make Roasted Broccoli, and whip up some Frozen Raspberry Lime Rickeys. For a sweet treat, kids can bake up a batch of Oatmeal-Chocolate Chip Cookies!

 

SEPTEMBER 7 — SEPTEMBER 13 Kitchen Classroom: Week 26

This week, kids will test their knowledge of food groups while making Salad In A Jar, explore combinations with Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Pie, flex their multiplication skills to bake Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, and engineer a DIY cooler in our Keep Your Cool Design Challenge.

 

AUGUST 31 — SEPTEMBER 6 Kitchen Classroom: Week 25

This week, kids can make a show-stopping Free-Form Summer Fruit Tart, learn all about chickpeas while making a pair of Crispy Veggie Burgers for lunch or dinner, get creative in a Make It Your Way Beverage Challenge, and practice real-world mathematics while baking up a batch of Granola Bars.

 

AUGUST 24 — AUGUST 30 Kitchen Classroom: Week 24

This week, kids can practice their measurement skills as they bake a Corn, Tomato, and Bacon Galette, cool off with Strawberry-Cream Paletas, keep track of time as they cook a Cheese Omelet for breakfast, and harness the power of steam while making Fancy Fish in Foil.

 

AUGUST 17 — AUGUST 23 Kitchen Classroom: Week 23

This week, kids can bake up a summery Blueberry Cobbler, transform almonds and rice into creamy Horchata, make Rice Noodle Bowls with Peanut Sauce, and discover which cheese makes the gooiest grilled cheese sandwich in a stretchy science experiment. 

 

AUGUST 10 — AUGUST 16 Kitchen Classroom: Week 22

This week, kids can make vegetarian Rice and Bean Bowls with Corn and Avocado Crema, explore some cheesy science while preparing Crispy Frico Caesar Salad, and tackle two different baking recipes: buttery Berry Scones make and citrusy Key Lime Bars. 

 

AUGUST 3 — AUGUST 9 Kitchen Classroom: Week 21

This week, kids can make Turkey Burgers, Summer Tomato and Peach Salad, and yogurt dips. Kids can tackle the Make It Your Way Challenge: Eat the Rainbow to see how many colors of fruits and veggies they can pack onto their plates.

 

JULY 27 — AUGUST 2 Kitchen Classroom: Week 20

Celebrate summer by blending a batch of No-Churn Ice Cream (no ice cream maker required) and learning about some of the chilly science behind frozen desserts in a hands-on science experiment. We also have recipes for Crispy Oven-Fried Chicken and Corny Cornbread.

JULY 20 — JULY 26 Kitchen Classroom: Week 19

This week, kids can take hands-on cooking to the next level by preparing Smashed Cucumber Salad, Mango Lassi Popsicles, Vegetable Tacos (starring zucchini and corn), and learning about the powerful science of salt with a batch of Zucchini Muffins.

JULY 13 — JULY 19 Kitchen Classroom: Week 18

This week, kids can make Buffalo Chicken Lavash Flatbread, Scrambled Eggs, Strawberry Cream "Shortcake," and a batch of refreshing Real Lemonade. 

JULY 6 — JULY 12 Kitchen Classroom: Week 17

This week, kids can use our splatter-free technique to cook Sweet and Tangy Glazed Salmon for dinner. Also on the menu for the week: Garlicky Skillet Green Beans, Muffin Tin Doughnut Holes, and a Make It Your Way Challenge: Cheese Snack Plate.

JUNE 29 — JULY 5 Kitchen Classroom: Week 16

This week, we’re helping you get ready for the long Fourth of July weekend with some summery, celebratory recipes (and a colorful taste test): Watermelon Slushies, Firecracker Hot Dogs, Guacamole, and a blind taste test with green and red bell peppers.

JUNE 22 — JUNE 28 Kitchen Classroom: Week 15

This week, kids can make a batch of Basil Pesto; stir together a Chocolate Snack Cake using a surprising ingredient; roll their way to lunch with a Spicy BLT Wrap; and create a bakery-worthy loaf of Almost No-Knead Bread.

JUNE 15 — JUNE 21 Kitchen Classroom: Week 14

This week, kids make great summer dishes: a layered yogurt parfait (and learn the difference between Greek yogurt and regular yogurt); smooth, creamy Hummus; and Shredded BBQ Chicken Sandwiches. We've also included a list of resources for learning about Juneteenth.

JUNE 8 — JUNE 14 Kitchen Classroom: Week 13

This week, kids can help make a hands-on dinner for the whole family with Sizzling Beef Lettuce Wraps. (Be sure they save the leftover scallion whites for the Regrow Your Vegetables activity!). They'll also make Real Buttered Popcorn (or one of the fun flavor variations) and sweet Strawberry Shortcakes.

JUNE 1 — JUNE 7 Kitchen Classroom: Week 12

This week, kids conduct an edible experiment about food texture and conduct a blind taste test on white and yellow cheddar cheese. Plus, they make Tortilla Snack Chips and a batch of Cheese Pupusas.

MAY 25 — MAY 31 Kitchen Classroom: Week 11

This week, young chefs will make Pesto Flatbread "Pizza," bake a batch of granola, enjoy some Bean and Cheese Quesadillas (with a recipe designed especially for kids ages 5 to 8), and whip up some Blueberry Muffins for weekend brunch.

MAY 18 — MAY 24 Kitchen Classroom: Week 10

This week, kids turn breakfast into a work of art with Smoothie Bowls. They also conduct an experiment that explores why cut avocados turn brown and then make Rainbow Grain Bowls. Then the whole family bakes Egyptian Spice Cookies and learns about the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fatr.

May 11 — May 17 Kitchen Classroom: Week 9

This week, we’re unpacking the (delicious) science of melting cheese with a gooey science experiment; unlocking kids' creativity using Birthday Cupcakes, Vanilla Frosting, and their imagination; and serving up a bunch of other kid-friendly recipes.

May 4 — May 10 Kitchen Classroom: Week 8

This week, kids explore how what you hear while you eat affects what you think of food’s flavor and texture, make Shredded Chicken Tacos for family dinner and S’More Rice Cereal Treats for dessert, and whip up Mother’s Day breakfast.

April 27 — May 3 Kitchen Classroom: Week 7

This week, young chefs will explore the power of salt. They’ll also make Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese, Creamy Dreamy Tomato Soup, and No-Bake Energy Bites. And they'll shake up a batch of flavored simple syrups and use them to create flavored seltzers.

April 20 — april 26 Kitchen Classroom: Week 6

This week we’re baking Blondies for a sweet treat, learning how our senses of smell and taste work together in a simple science experiment, eating tacos for breakfast, and snacking on homemade Kale Chips and Tomato-Mozzarella Bites.

april 13 — april 19 Kitchen Classroom: Week 5

This week includes a shakeable science experiment that unpacks why water and oil don’t mix; recipes for Fudgy Chocolate Mug Cakes, Parmesan Chicken Tenders, and Personal Pizzas; and a creative “Make It Your Way” sandwich challenge.

april 6 — april 12 Kitchen Classroom: Week 4

This week starts off with some simple science experiments using bubbly seltzer water and also includes a salty art activity, kid-tested Meatballs, easy (and gluten-free) Peanut Butter Cookies, a foolproof recipe for hard-cooked eggs, and DIY Pancake Mix.

march 30 — april 5 Kitchen Classroom: Week 3

Make a recipe from My First Cookbook, play around with food textures, explore the spectacular world of fruits, explore the science of popcorn, bake a GIANT chocolate chip cookie, and discover how easy it is to make cheese using just two ingredients.

March 23 — March 29 Kitchen Classroom: Week 2

Explore the cool chemistry of salt and cheese, make chicken breasts and a comforting pasta dish with butter and Parmesan cheese for lunch or dinner, dive into the world of food packaging, and celebrate the weekend with pantry-friendly scones.
